The Best of Chicago Carless

(Photo: Just keep walking. Just keep walking…)

After three years and more than 300 posts, CHICAGO CARLESS has attracted a faithful audience–and one that I much appreciate.  That readership has grown larger since I relaunched the overhauled blog a few weeks ago, so I’d like to welcome you all back to my humble Internet abode by telling you about some new features I’ve rolled out here.

My favorite of these, which my ADHD hyperfocus led me to obsess over last night instead of heading to see the Benin exhibit during free Thursdays at the Art Institute (life of Reilly, I know) is my new Best of Chicago Carless category.  Here, I’ve collected my favorite posts from my time scribing CARLESS, the ones that give me pause everytime I read them again, and communicate most clearly the point of this blog: figuring out life and love in the context of my life as a downtown Chicagoan.  If you’re new, start here for the best idea of where we’ve all been together since this blog debuted in June 2005.

The subscriptions are also massively expanded.  Besides picking up the RSS feed or email feed for my regular updates, you can also now subscribe to the new comments feed, to be notified when others leave a comment here, as well as a del.icio.us feed of the places I’ve recently commented on other website. And you can follow me aorund throughout my day on my personal new obsession, Twitter.

(For those of you want to ask “What is RSS?”, follow that link and the estimable Darren Rowse over at Problogger will fill you in.)

I’ve also added a new “Share and Subscribe” feature below each blog entry.  You can use this feature to bookmark entries, add them to the social-networking and/or bookmarking site(s) of your choice, or email entries to someone else you think might find them interesting.  Speaking of which, those of you so interested can connect with me via my MySpace and Facebook profiles as well, both of which will allow you to follow blog updates from CHICAGO CARLESS via widgets installed on each page.

Although quiet for a few weeks, the Chicagoans Project, a forum for current (and former–and newbie) Chicagoans to tell their stories here on CARLESS, is off the ground again, with new stories in the pipeline.  If you would like to tell your story about the things that are important to you in the WIndy City, send me an email at mike (at) chicagocarless (dot) com.

I would also encourge you all to take a look at the revamped Chicago Bloggers website to read the work of other, fabulous bloggers living here in my beloved, adopted midwestern hometown.

If theres anything you’d like to see added here on CARLESS, or you have any suggestions, please leave a comment below (and Hurray!, since the overhaul, comments finally work again).

I’ll see you all on Monday, and as always, thank you–very much–for reading.
