20 Years of CHICAGO CARLESS

Boy, that went by fast.

20 Years of CHICAGO CARLESS

This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of CHICAGO CARLESS. I began this blog at the end of June 2005, two years after trading in my native New York City for Chicago. Over the past two decades and more, I’ve spent far more time not regretting that decision than regretting it, and even when I have, I'll point out I'm very much still here in the Windy City.

To celebrate the beginning of the third decade of my blog, I've done some significant housecleaning. I replaced WordPress, the blogging platform I used for more than 17 years, with Ghost CMS. Things now have a fresher, modern look, and pages load much faster. It’s a lot easier to use from my end, too.

Because I've switched platforms, you'll need to re-register if you'd like to continue receiving email updates or post comments. Just follow this sign-up link, or use the links in the header of my blog. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

There are likely some broken links or missing photos scattered around. I apologize for those, migrating away from Wordpress is a heck of a task that took weeks of time to accomplish. If you notice anything broken or amiss, please send me an email and I’ll address it.

I've also left all my old comments behind. There was no easy way to bring them forward into Ghost. This makes me sad, and I honor all of the conversations we've had since 2005. I'll miss their legacy appearance here. But they served more as a reminder of where I’ve been for me than as a “my God, how outdated is this comment?” experience for you. So all my comment threads are starting fresh today. Ah well. Time marches on, so onward.

Also, as my old Los Angeles friend Adam assumed I would do when I discovered my autism almost five years ago, I am refocusing my blog on my autistic journey. And honestly, that's not a big change at all. Having read all the way back through this blog’s nearly 1,000 posts during my migration to Ghost, it's clear to me how every single thing I've ever written has been inspired, colored, troubled, flavored, or otherwise generated by my autistic journey. It has never not been there, nor can it ever be. So if you’re a longtime reader, you may have known about my autism far longer than I ever did.

Moving forward, I may go even harder into autism coverage via a paid newsletter. But that's completely separate from the meat and potatoes of my blog as I've written it for the past 20 years. I hope you enjoy what's to come. And thank you for reading.
