Imagine my surprise this past Friday when I took one of my urban hikes through my downtown Chicago neighborhood and walked right into what may be the most unnecessarily dangerous pedestrian crossing in town.
The Chicago Police Department seems to have a culture of protecting its own, especially when officers hurt innocent people. That’s clear from recent news reports about the department’s handling of the Anthony Abbate bartender-beating incident.
Cops like bonehead Chicago police officer Anthony Abbate are not the norm. But whenever anyone asks me if I trust the poilice, I always so ‘No.’ Because every cop I’ve ever known–or dated–has told me too many stories about bad cop behavior.
