Logo or Penis?: Oak Park’s New Phallic Symbol

Today I refer you to my latest article on Chicagosphere. This week, an out-of-state “community branding” consultant stood up in front of the Oak Park, Illinois, village board and proposed a new visitors bureau logo for the upscale, west-suburban town. Trouble is, for a lot of folks, at first glance–and second, and third–the new logo looks a lot like…a phallus. It’s a “you can’t make this stuff up” controversy that caught fire in the Oak Park Twitterverse. Sometimes a logo is just a . . . brand mark.
It reminds me of the higher-security, dual-cut pattern of older luxury car ignition keys. Or an index finger replete with nail.
But then again, you’re gay, I’m a dyke. Interpretation is partly subjective, of course.
It totally looks like a phallus or a diagram for condoms. (Said another dyke.)
Has anyone seen the http://www.randywood.co.uk logo? the name is one of the funniest when you think about it, but then take a double look at the name. boy that has to be the best disguised penis yet. and it’s a genuine clothing brand too !!
