I spent my early childhood in San Diego, visiting the world-class zoo each time a family member would fly west to visit my mom, dad, sister and myself. Never in all the trips to the San Diego Zoo (nor to the Wild Animal Park) did I go home with a purple hippopotamus, no matter how hard I wished for one.

It's my hope that sometimes God answers prayers 28 years or so after the fact.

We have an orange Mold-O-Rama stegosaurus in residence above our sink. Years later, they continue to smell like crayon on a radiator.

Wow. Those were very much a part of my childhood as well, but I had always assumed they were in museums and zoos everywhere. The fact that you are JUST discovering them is odd to me.

And yes, I remember having to handle them very carefully, and I remember the brand-new toys having a very distinct smell to them as well.

Like others, I was allowed one and only one per trip. It seems almost blasphemous that you got umpteen in one trip, lol. And while I did collect a small herd--which is probably collecting dust somewhere in my parents' apartment--I never named them.
