A Kathy Griffin New Year’s Eve

(Photo: Wait for it.  Wait for it.)

An hour after Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin rang in New Year’s Eve 2009 in New York City last night, Kathy got heckled from an unseen spectator while still live on CNN.  Moments before the network cut to commercial, Kathy heckled the heckler right back. While live.  On CNN. It went something like this:

“Why don’t you get a job, buddy!  You know what?  I don’t go to your job and knock the dicks out of your mouth!

BOOM!  Commercial.

As Kathy would say, the moment was like a gift from the baby Jesus, and the funniest thing I’ve ever heard on New Year’s Eve.  Live.  On CNN.  Don’t believe me?  Watch the YouTube video, below.  And while I’m at it, Happy New Year to all!

This summer, when I jumped head-first into Chicago's big-box wage debate, I repeatedly said that the best way to promote a wage increase was at the state level. 1. This may be the single greatest moment of live TV I’ve seen in a long time. It’s about time ppl on live TV got to stand up for themselves..

  2. I find Kathy Griffin about as amusing as trimming my toenails. Not only did she steal that line from another comedian, but she thinks she makes a living making fun of peole and annoying them, but she can’t take it when someone else heckles her. uggh.

  3. Just another reason why I love Kathy Griffin.

  4. Sorry Michael. I have to disagree. It would prove she “can’t take it” if she ignored the heckler. It would prove she “can’t take it” if she quietly went to a commercial. She proved she can take it, and dish it right back!! Go Kathy!!

  5. The best of live TV since the “wardrobe malfunction”!

  6. Sorry I missed that. I’m sure the expression on Anderson Cooper’s face was priceless. Can’t wait to see her on the show next year.

Er… they are bringing her back, right?

  7. Ken, I bet they bring her back. It’s not like CNN didn’t know what they were getting with her (“Fuck you, Extreme Home Makeover,” and “This Emmy is My God Now” at the “Schmemmies”, etc.)

I especially loved how the CNN street reporters were trying their best to do their boring, conservative, meaningless “reveler in Times Square” interviews, with Kathy not having any of it.

Some have said she was irresponsible in her comments because New Year’s Eve is a “family event”. I wonder what the hell they’re smoking. If you let your kids stay up til midnight on alcohol-swilling New Year’s Eve–much less let them watch Kathy Griffin at midnight–you get, and got, exactly what you deserve.

  8. And this is why I adore Kathy.

Anderson Cooper probably got home and Googled, “Jobs, Lots of Dicks, Mouth”
