Well said. I've lamented the commercialization and materialism of Christmas for years – and actually withdrew from celebrating for a while. It took time for me, as an adult convert to atheism. to accept that I could enjoy a secular holiday that involved only the company of friends – which is gift enough for me.

Now if only others could accept my silent dismissal of the religious aspects of the holiday. Even my most liberal Christian friends sometimes seem to take offense that I don't share all of their reasons for celebrating the holiday.
