“Downtown Local” Podcast Debuts on Chicago Carless

(Photo: A dangerous drug is GarageBand…)

Given me and my big mouth, it had to happen sometime. Today debuts “Downtown Local“, my (most likely allegedly) weekly podcast look at life, love, and folly from the heart of downtown Chicago. I’ll use “Downtown Local” to expand on issues I cover in my regular blogposts, as well as to share new stories–and, of course, rants.

For anyone who’s been wondering what I sound like (and except primarily for those of you who recognize me on the elevator at Marina City from time to time, that’s just about everyone) here’s your chance to find out. Take a listen to the podcast, I’d love to get your feedback.

This week’s “Downtown Local” topics: Blair Kamin and the Chicago Children’s Museum; the “Stranded in the Loop, Please Help” brigade; and how to have an oversexed summer in one easy lesson.

And if that last one’s not reason enough to listen in, I don’t know what is.

Let the gay community come and take my toaster oven back. I'm not a fan of Market Days. Yes, I know it's the largest street festival in the Midwest and the high point of Chicago's LGBT calendar. 1. Congrats on your first Podcast, wish you success with it.

I am the one who said that I hope you don’t work for the CCM, see below. Although I’ve been to several of the meetings they hosted such as the Reilly / Natarus debate and the Lakeshore East school discussion, I’m not a NEAR member, just a concerned local parent and resident. Both of my daughters have been in classes at the Daley Bi.

“(Does anyone have background on “ChicagoCarless” – is he a paid-for blogger/debater? I woudn’t be surprised given the depth of the wallet of the CCM promoters..)

“Sorry to accuse you of this but given their recent actions I have to wonder given their heavy handed tactics to misrepresent the neighborhood even before the meeting:

.. please tell me I am wrong :-)

But I thought your comment about the President of the Children’s Museum wondering if you work for them was amusing and telling. They must assume any support they are getting must be someone on their payroll :-)

  2. You are such an inteverate wag, Eric :-)

What kind of services/classes can kids find at the Daley Bi fieldhouse? I haven’t ever really taken a look.

  3. current classes:
    Moms, Pops, and Tots
    Preschool
    Tiny Tot Tumbling

special park district programs year round e.g
    “Turtles and Toddlers”

in the summer there is a summer camp for older kids

  4. Speaking of our local vagabonds, have you noticed that some of them have been at it for years? There’s the one guy who sits on the sidewalk on state street right outside the eventually soon-to-be no-longer-an-eyesore museum. He’s been sitting there for at least fours years now with his ever-evolving sign. Or the one with the plastic badge on his black “uniform” who claims to be a security guard for Hertz, but his car got towed (isn’t that ironic?). He seems to forget routinely that he’s tried that one on me countless times already.

As for the one-night stands…confession: I have a collection of guys’ underwear in my closet that doesn’t belong to me. I’m still waiting for the owners to come back…
