Good post. Just one caveat -- real Chicagoans don't say Chi-town. It marks you as either "not-from-here" or a suburbanite.

The fact is that Macy's has given its best shot at getting Chicagoans to look kindly on the concept of a State Street Macy's at the Marshall Field's building. They have simply failed on every level. Nobody involved believes in that working at this point. Stubborness of the Federated Board has led to nothing less than the imminent shuttering of a prominent "Macy's" store, leading to even more money lost by that company.

Either bring back Mashshall Field's or lose big. Those are the only options.

They apparently never heard the rules of retail:

1. The customer is always right.
2. If the customer is wrong, see rule #1.

I'm not happy to see Macy's proven wrong; I hate to see Marshall Field's run into the ground.

Have you noticed that the CTA, instead of replacing "Marshall Field's" on the State St. stretch of CTA maps with "Macy's", simply removed it entirely? Nice little jab there. ;)

And it's amazing how many maps being printed in 2006 and 2007 still show Marshall Field's, and not Macy's, located on that block. :-)
