Well, Chad, I think the first revision of any product has its fair share of problems. Devyn's replacement MacBook Pro--a revision B--works fine. So does my (instantly loved) consumer-level MacBook. So I wouldn't worry too much about the product.

it's the support I'm concerned about, at least for these models. I think the best bet is to purchase directly from your nearest Apple Store. That way, if your Mac has an issue, you can exchange it there for another one, instead of having to send it back and wait.

Although, since I know how visual you are, I'd wait until Picasa finally comes out on the Mac. Devyn's hurting for it now, iView Media Pro isn't as flexible, nor is iPhoto.

I guess you have to give a little to get a little...

I've been hearing really bad things about the quality of the new Mac laptops, and your experiences only make me worry. I've been wanting to switch to Mac for a long time now, but I'm leery at this point.

Not that the computer I have now is much better than a broken Mac...

We use macs exclusively at our office and have had several bad experiences with refurbished computers. I would not recommend one even with Apple's warranty and care program. The refurbished computers are invariably lemons that require numberous trips to the genius bar and multiple ship backs to get parts replaced. More trouble than the savings provide. My advice: pay full price and get a new computer.
