Marina City Taps Run Dry Once More, New Water Pumps to Blame
You West Tower residents, you think you’re so high and mighty, laughing and lording it over us East Tower folks just because we’ve been the ones stuck with most of the fires, floods, and water pressure poop-outs lately. Well chuckle no more, you ne’er-do-well neighbors. It’s your turn now, do you hear? It’s your turn! Ha, ha, ha! I am the pumpkin king — er, I mean…
Yes, folks, you guessed it, for the second time in a week, the electrical motors on the newly installed, lowest-bidder, high-rise residential water pumps at Marina City have failed. Last week, East Tower went dry in the middle of the night. Today, West Tower toilets ceased flushing, with no official word available to tell residents when their pee and poo would potentially be able to be properly punted away.
Marina City residents suffered through three separate days of water shut-offs and a massive flood in both towers while the new pumps were installed, amid repeated assurances appearing in the official condominium association newsletter and on association bulletin boards that the new pumps would render Marina City’s four-decade-old water system blissfully trouble-free.
Unfortunately, if there’s one thing that you can depend on at Marina City, it’s that nothing ever seems to turn out as planned. How about this plan: choose your contractors more wisely. When you drink from the trough of the lowest bid, you almost always get what you pay for.
Which in this case, pretty much as usual for Marina City, is a dry trough.
