Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Dedication Ceremony
Chicago’s long-awaited Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial was dedicated this morning just across the river from my house, on Lower Wacker Drive between Wabash and State. I shot a bunch of pictures of the ceremony as I was walking to work. There were many in attendance and the mood was appropriately respectul and somber. Except for the U.S. Cellular guerrilla marketing team that showed up in blue face paint (first on the Brown Line and now here, this company really needs to fire their advertising house). No word yet on whether Mayor Byrne’s original monument has ever been “un-lost” by the Daley administration, though.

And now for the morons. (What the hell were they thinking marketing at such a solemn ceremony?)

Also check out cool evening pics of the memorial at rachelleb.com.

The latest casualty in U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald's long-overdue war on Chicago municipal graft, Shirley McMayon, made the classic Hogtown mistake. She assumed no one was watching, and she didn't bother to launder the money.
The Project for Public Spaces assesses Chicago's universally loved Millennium Park and labels it a failure. Judging by the heavy use the park gets from Windy City locals, you have to wonder whether the organization actually visited it in the first place.
It may be the biggest heist in Chicago history, folks, and it's right under our noses. Or our feet, anyway. One look at this year's new Chicago Transit Authority map uncovers the dastardly deed: someone has stolen the Washington/State Red Line station.
